Duke Realty Day of Service

Posted on: No Comments

Duke Realty DayOn Thursday April 21st, 25 executives from Duke Realty visited Morning Dove for a day of service.   Executives from all over the United States came to participate in a leadership program offered at the Duke headquarters in Indiana – as part of the program the executives spent a full day of service at Morning Dove.  From building toys, to painting, to landscaping, to building an outdoor arena, every minute was put to good use at the barn.

As part of the day the participants also helped side-walk in lessons, allowing them to experience the mission of Morning Dove firsthand.

The relationship with Duke and Morning Dove goes back several years as the corporation generously housed Morning Dove on one of their local farms for the past few years.  Having Duke as a corporate partner has increased the visibility and reputation of Morning Dove.  We feel very honored to have Duke as a corporate partner and look forward to many years of collaborations.

The Duke executive leadership team worked tirelessly on Thursday and we look forward to another day of service next year.

IU Cares Day
IU Cares DayOn April 9th, 17 students from the Boone County chapter of The Indiana University Foundation came out to Morning Dove for a day of service.  There were 12 students from Lebanon High School and 5 from Indiana University – all participating in the annual IU Cares Day 2011.  Although the day was spent in the rain the students gave back tremendously to Morning Dove.   The barn was full of laughter and hard working students.  Morning Dove would like to thank all the students who came out in the rain to volunteer.

On Friday, January 28th Morning Dove was presented with the Community Service Award from the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce.  It was a wonderful night for Morning Dove, board member Patricia Blazek presented Lisa Condes with the award.  Patricia’s words spoke straight to the heart of the Morning Dove mission.  Morning Dove is thrilled to be 2011 Community Service Award recipient.  Below is a transcript of Patricia’s presentation of the 2011 Community Service Award to Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding,Inc.

Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award Presentation

I was asked to explain tonight why I submitted my nomination for this organization for the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award.

Sometimes seeing, is believing…

And since I couldn’t bring the place to you…

I invite you to come on a short journey with me…

Close your eyes and imagine with me…

Imagine… a world that is often mean or hurtful…

Imagine… the challenges you might face if you needed a wheelchair to get around …

Imagine… the frustration you might feel trying to communicate but the effects of autism or mental disability make it nearly impossible…

Imagine… the struggles you might experience as a military veteran returning home from combat … after losing a limb…

Now imagine…

Imagine… a magical place …where miracles happen…

Imagine … the joy and freedom you feel when you are on the back of a horse…

No wheelchair…

No limitations…

And communicating is as simple as pulling on the reins!

Imagine … the gentle calm and soothing motion you feel “walking” while on the back of your horse!

Imagine… the breeze on your face, and the rush of excitement when you are “running” while seated the back of your horse!

Imagine … the thrill as you experience the world in a new light…

This is the magic of Morning Dove!

In 2008, shortly after accepting a position with Medco Health Solutions, I learned of Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding Center and the difference they were making in the community.  During my first trip to the barn, I watched a class in the riding arena and witnessed firsthand the magic that is Morning Dove!  I saw the excitement as the rider put on a helmet, preparing for class!  I watched as they went with their instructor to greet their horse…  The magic was just beginning!

I watched these special horses and their calming effects, their inherit ability to sense or feel and understand the needs of their special rider; even if the words were unspoken…  As I continued to watch, I realized what a blessing this place is…

As if watching the growth and development of riders as they gain confidence and self-esteem weren’t enough – to see a face light up, or a smile from ear to ear, or to hear the sounds of laughter… it’s like the icing on the cake … it is Magical!

At Morning Dove, over 100 riders, with varying degrees of mental or physical disabilities, along with their families experience this magic weekly!  Thanks to the caring and committed staff, instructors, horses, and volunteers which are the heart of Morning Dove Therapeutic Riding Center the magic is happening and it is improving lives … one rider at a time …

Simply put … Morning Dove … is MAGICAL!

For the magic they create in the community of Zionsville and beyond –

It is my honor to present Morning Dove with the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Community Service Award!  –Patricia Blazek
