Due to the heat advisory and Morning Dove’s heat policy, classes are canceled for Tuesday July 19 and Wednesday July 20. Morning Dove will not have programming if the actual temperature is 95 degrees or above and if the heat index is above 100 degrees. We look forward to our new arena that will be temperature controlled, even in the heat!!!!!

Last week we had to bid farewell to our beloved Breezy. Breezy started working with Morning Dove in the spring of 2010 and for the short year he was a part of the Morning Dove family he touched so many lives. His loving nature and carefree attitude made him a favorite in the barn with both our riders and the volunteers. Breezy’s expressive face and gentle eyes brought so much joy into barn and we will miss him dearly. Thank you Breezy for all you did for Morning Dove. We love you and you will forever live in the hearts of the Morning Dove family.
Below is a letter that one of our riders wrote about the day we lost our sweet Breezy. He wrote it to help all the riders that loved Breezy – little did he know it would touch the lives of staff and volunteers as well.
Dear Kids,
My name is David. I am a volunteer
who works here at Morning Dove. On
Wednesday morning, I noticed Breezy
was not getting up when I started my
shift. He was rolling around in his stall
and he was feeling sick.
The veterinarians came and tried to
help him, but he was hurting, so they put
him to sleep. But he is in Horse Heaven
now and he’s happy.
I know you’ll miss him, but he’s in a
better place. He’ll always be
remembered for the kind things he did
for the staff members, for his fellow
horses, and for all the kids.
Sincerely,
David Blaising-Wimmer and his Mom

On Saturday May 21st El Brus celebrated his sweet 16th birthday. The day was a wonderful celebration for one of our favorite horses. Morning Dove riders made cards for the birthday boy and added carrots to his watermelon cake. Of course there was cake for both two legged and four legged party participants. In true Brus fashion he soaked up all the attention and love. Happy Birthday Brus – we all love you very much.

Morning Dove has been chosen as one of five finalists, for a $100,000 grant from Impact 100, to fund our NARHA Horses for Heroes pilot program!!!!
Impact 100 is a recognized 501C3, which grants $100,000 once a year, to an organization in the greater Indianapolis area, to help impact the community. Impact 100 is comprised of over 100 women in the state of Indiana, all of which give $1,000 a year. The philosophy of Impact 100 is to fund a critical need in the Indianapolis community – by awarding large-scale grants the impact on the community is vast. The mission of Impact 100 is as follows: Impact 100 Greater Indianapolis is a charitable women’s giving circle dedicated to awarding high impact grants to nonprofits in our community in the areas of arts & culture, education, environment, family, and health & wellness.
The process started back in February when our grant application was chosen out of hundreds of applications to move into the semi-finals. After completing a more detailed and extensive grant application in March, Morning Dove was chosen as one of five finalists for the Health and Wellness committee. On Tuesday May 3rd, representatives from the Health and Wellness committee came to Morning Dove for a site visit. The day was wonderful – the ladies were able to observe a lesson, learn more about the history and future of Morning Dove and gain a better and more detailed vision of our NARHA Horses for Heroes program. On May 5th we were notified that Morning Dove had been chosen as the winner of the Health and Wellness committee. As part of being the finalists for our committee Morning Dove will receive a $12,500 grant. On June 9th Morning Dove will give a 7-minute presentation at the Impact 100 annual meeting/dinner. At the end of the evening the winner of the $100,000 grant will be announced.
NARHA Horses for Heroes assists military veterans through equine assisted activities and therapies. Indiana has over 6,000 veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – working with our local VA we have established over 200 soldiers in the Poly-Trauma Unit in need of a Horses for Heroes program. The Horses for Heroes program will help veterans with emotional health, physical health (including balance and strength), as well as reintegration into society and family life. The need is there – the desire is there – Morning Dove is organized and ready to start the NARHA Horses for Heroes of Central Indiana program, and now thanks to Impact 100 the funds will be in place to launch the pilot program on September 1, 2011.
A special thanks to EVERYONE who has helped along this process – we feel so incredibly blessed to be in the finals for the Impact 100 grant and look forward to the first day one of our veterans mounts a horse at Morning Dove. Providing this program is the least we can do for the men and women who so willingly serve our county every day.
God Bless America!!!!!!!!!!

On Thursday April 21st, 25 executives from Duke Realty visited Morning Dove for a day of service. Executives from all over the United States came to participate in a leadership program offered at the Duke headquarters in Indiana – as part of the program the executives spent a full day of service at Morning Dove. From building toys, to painting, to landscaping, to building an outdoor arena, every minute was put to good use at the barn.
As part of the day the participants also helped side-walk in lessons, allowing them to experience the mission of Morning Dove firsthand.
The relationship with Duke and Morning Dove goes back several years as the corporation generously housed Morning Dove on one of their local farms for the past few years. Having Duke as a corporate partner has increased the visibility and reputation of Morning Dove. We feel very honored to have Duke as a corporate partner and look forward to many years of collaborations.
The Duke executive leadership team worked tirelessly on Thursday and we look forward to another day of service next year.

On April 9th, 17 students from the Boone County chapter of The Indiana University Foundation came out to Morning Dove for a day of service. There were 12 students from Lebanon High School and 5 from Indiana University – all participating in the annual IU Cares Day 2011. Although the day was spent in the rain the students gave back tremendously to Morning Dove. The barn was full of laughter and hard working students. Morning Dove would like to thank all the students who came out in the rain to volunteer.
